How long does men's back sugaring take?

A first full-back appointment takes about 45 minutes. Once you're on a regular four-to-six-week cycle it usually drops closer to 30 minutes, because the hair is finer and growing in on the same schedule.

Does back sugaring hurt?

The first visit is the most noticeable. Each flick is a quick tug lasting about a second, not a sustained pull. Sugar paste grips hair rather than live skin, so most men find it easier than wax, and easier again by the third appointment.

How long should my back hair be before sugaring?

About a quarter inch, roughly two to three weeks after shaving. Don't shave or trim right before. If it's longer than about an inch, we trim it in the studio at no charge.

Is the Welland studio private for men?

Yes. Bare Elegance at 9 Broadway is single-occupancy: one client at a time, a door that locks, no shared waiting room and no other staff in the room. We never take or post client photos.

What happens at your first appointment

You're in and out in under an hour, and nobody else is in the studio.

Five-minute intake. Skin, medications, and exactly which areas you want cleared.
Face-down on a warm bed. We work in sections: shoulder blades, mid-back, then lower back.
Cleanse, powder, sugar, soothe. Powder helps the paste grip hair, not skin.
Quick check in the mirror. We tidy any strays before you put your shirt on.

Why sugar instead of wax on a man's back

Back hair is coarse and grows in several directions, which is where wax struggles.

Removed with the grain. Less breakage, so fewer hairs snap below the skin.
Body-temperature paste. No hot wax on large areas of skin.
Grips hair, not live skin. Usually less redness the next day.

How to prep (and what not to do)

Let it grow to about a quarter inch — two to three weeks after shaving.
Exfoliate lightly the day before, not the day of.
Skip lotion, oil and the gym right before your appointment.
Pause retinoid products on your back for a few days beforehand.

Aftercare for the next 24 hours

No gym, sauna, hot tub or sun for a day, and keep cologne off the area. From day two, exfoliate two or three times a week. Our sugaring aftercare guide covers the full routine.
