Sugaring Hair Removal

Natural Sugaring Hair Removal in Welland, Ontario

Certified sugaring performed with organic paste — the gentlest, most skin-friendly hair removal method for face and body.

Sugaring is body hair removal using a paste made of only sugar, lemon and water. At Bare Elegance in Welland, every sugaring appointment is performed one-on-one by a certified specialist, using paste that adheres to hair rather than skin — a gentler, less irritating alternative to waxing that can reduce ingrown hairs over time.

How does sugaring actually work?

Warm sugar paste is applied against the direction of hair growth and then flicked off in the direction of growth. Because the paste grips only the hair and dead skin cells — never the living skin — there's less pulling, less redness, and lower risk of irritation than traditional strip or hard wax. The paste is applied at just above body temperature, so there's no burn risk, and because it's water-soluble, cleanup is a wipe with warm water — no sticky residue.

Which areas can be sugared?

Everything. Brows, upper lip, chin, sideburns, underarms, arms, half or full leg, bikini line, Brazilian, back, chest, shoulders and stomach. We tailor pressure, paste consistency, and technique to each area — the paste used on a delicate underarm is not the same as the paste used on a coarse back. First-timers are always welcome and we walk you through the entire process before we start.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

You'll arrive to a private one-on-one studio — no shared waiting room, no other clients passing through. We start with a short intake: skin sensitivity, medications, past hair-removal history, and the exact area we're treating. The service itself takes about 45 minutes for legs, 30 minutes for a Brazilian, and 15 minutes for underarms. You'll leave with a printed aftercare card and a clear timeline for your next visit.

Sugaring vs waxing: the honest comparison

Sugaring is water-soluble (no sticky residue), room-temperature warm (no burn risk), and applied against the hair growth then removed with it (which is what makes it gentler on skin). Wax is often applied at high heat, sticks to skin as well as hair, and is stripped against the grain — which is what causes most of the discomfort and breakage. For a first appointment, results are comparable; over three to four appointments, sugaring clients almost always report finer regrowth, fewer ingrown hairs, and less post-service redness.

Aftercare that keeps results perfect

For the first 24 hours: no hot showers, no gym, no swimming pool or hot tub, no sun exposure, no tight clothing on the sugared area, and no makeup, retinols or chemical exfoliants directly on the skin. Starting day two, exfoliate lightly two or three times a week with a soft mitt and moisturize daily. This is how you prevent ingrown hairs long-term — and it's the difference between good sugaring and great sugaring.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is sugaring and how does it differ from waxing?
Sugaring uses a paste made only of sugar, lemon juice and water. It adheres to hair rather than to skin and is removed in the direction of hair growth, which is gentler on the skin, causes less redness, and can lead to fewer ingrown hairs than waxing over time.
Does sugaring hurt?
Most clients describe sugaring as noticeably less painful than waxing. Because the paste only grips the hair, the skin isn't pulled the way it is with wax strips. Sensitivity varies by area, and it typically eases after the first two or three appointments.
How long should my hair be for a sugaring appointment?
About 1/8 inch — roughly 2–3 weeks of regrowth after shaving, or about 3 weeks after waxing. If you're unsure, book anyway and we'll assess in person; we'd rather trim on-site than turn you away.
How often should I book sugaring appointments?
For body areas, every 3–5 weeks keeps hair on a consistent growth cycle and delivers the best long-term results. Facial sugaring is often every 2–4 weeks.
Is sugaring safe for sensitive skin?
Yes — sugaring paste is water-soluble, hypoallergenic, and free of resins, dyes and fragrance. It's one of the most recommended hair removal methods for sensitive, reactive or eczema-prone skin.
Can I get sugared while pregnant?
Yes. Sugaring is one of the safest hair removal methods during pregnancy — the paste contains no chemicals, no dyes and no synthetic resins, and it's applied at body temperature so there's no burn risk. Let us know ahead of time so we can position you comfortably.
Can I get sugared on my period?
Absolutely, and many clients do. Skin can be slightly more sensitive that week, so a longer bikini or Brazilian may feel a touch more intense — but there's no medical reason to skip. Bring a fresh tampon or menstrual cup; we'll leave the room while you settle in.
What should I do (and not do) before my appointment?
Exfoliate lightly 24–48 hours beforehand, moisturize daily, and skip caffeine right before your appointment (it can heighten sensitivity). Avoid retinols, chemical exfoliants and sun exposure on the area for 48 hours.
